On June 9th, the California Senate approved a proposal to ban the use of biphenol A, a ubiquitous chemical used in dental fillings, aluminum can liners, and plastic baby-bottles and food containers that has been linked to developmental disorders, diabetes, brain damage, and certain forms of cancer.Industry leaders and manufacturers of BPA have stated that the chemical is safe, and they have defended it by citing its passing of both EU and US regulatory laws. They decry the ban as being “overblown” and being pandered by elected officials who have folded under pressure from special interest groups.
